Chairman's introduction

At our last Regional Advisory Board meetings, no-one could have predicted the tragedy and turmoil that awaited us as the early months of 2020 unfolded. I sincerely hope that you, your family and colleagues have stayed safe and well during the Covid-19 pandemic that has swept the globe over the last 6 months. I can only begin to imagine the challenges that this has brought to maintain food supplies through disrupted supply chains and provide as safe an environment as possible for colleagues and consumers.

I greatly appreciate the expert support you have provided to the BRCGS Team who have worked so hard to respond to the drastic change in how auditing services can be provided, working with many IAB members to create the Guidance Document, launched a new Covid-19 resource hub that has a range of best practice advice delivered in multiple languages, and finally just recently created some new products such as the Covid-19 Additional Module and another option for Certificate Extension to help you manage food safety during this unprecedented period.

In this months’ newsletter there are links to all the Covid-19 support materials and products that have been published by BRCGS. I encourage you to share links with your colleagues, suppliers and other industry partners.

This crisis has once again demonstrated that we are stronger by working together. As I have stated before this is one of the reasons the IAB was established, to bring together like minded technical professionals to share experience and develop solutions. We have all had to adopt new ways of working and, for the Board, an immediate consequence of this is that, at least for the short term, our Advisory Board Meetings will be held remotely in July.

I look forward to our first meeting in the new format shortly and understanding how we can share and learn from each other’s experiences of recent times and move forward with greater assurance.
