The Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials is the first GFSI packaging scheme to be benchmarked, and is often accepted or specified by leading retailers, manufacturers and food service organisations worldwide.
Brand and customer confidence
Whether you’re an established global supplier of packaging and packaging materials or based in an emerging market, the Standard will help ensure your customers have confidence in your products.
By improving product safety, the Standard will also help you reduce waste, complaints, recalls and rejected products through a cycle of continuous improvement.
Many retailers, brand owners, raw material processors and packaging manufacturers around the world support the use of the Standard and accept it as part of their supplier approval processes.
Marketing tool for sites
BRCGS certificated sites can use our scheme as a marketing tool by displaying the BRCGS Certificated logo on public-facing materials, stationery and websites. Your business will appear on the BRCGS Directory too, giving you further recognition by all the brand owners and specifiers that use the system.
Achievable and cost effective
Developed by packaging and product safety experts, the Standard is rigorous and detailed yet easy to understand. It’s HACCP and hazard and risk management based. It incorporates product safety management systems and internationally accepted best manufacturing practice. And there’s a clear step-by-step path towards certification.
Highly trained auditors
All our audits are carried out by a global network of highly-trained certification bodies and training providers. We have exceptionally high standards when it comes to the competence, qualifications and experience of our auditors, and they’re closely monitored too. This ensures the audit standards are stringently maintained and auditing is consistent around the world.
Support and governance
We've established a Technical team who are highly experienced in the packaging and product safety industries, and are available to answer any technical questions. We also have expert International Technical Committees to ensure the ongoing development of the Global Standard through a process of collaboration and continuous improvement. Should you have any issues, there's an established and transparent complaints procedure that ensures any matters are investigated thoroughly and are vigorously followed up.
The Standard is available in six languages, with additional translations being developed to further improve understanding and consistency. Global recognition of the Standard by your customers also reduces the need for expensive duplicate audits.
Flexible audit options
If you’re just starting out with product safety and quality management systems, the BRCGS Global Markets Programme might be for you. Based on the GFSI’s Global Markets for food, this programme allows you to implement portions of the requirements at Basic or Intermediate levels, either to suit the nature of your business, or to support you on your company’s journey to implementing the full Standard.
