Meet Sylvia
Sylvia Chia is a food safety specialist with a 100% first-time certification success rate: every organisation she has consulted for passed its certification audit on the first attempt. For a decade she has helped organisations across Southeast Asia build, strengthen and certify their food safety and quality systems. She combines academic training in food technology with hands-on work as a trainer, consultant and auditor. That means she knows what a standard requires, how auditors read it, and how to make it work on a real production floor.
She is a Certified BRCGS Professional and a BRCGS Approved Training Partner. Certification bodies including NSF, DNV, Kiwa International, TUV and Intertek have appointed her as an approved trainer, and she delivers the BRCGS Food Safety Lead Auditor course for NSF.
As an auditor, she works across all three audit types:
• Third-party: certification audits for GMP, HACCP and ISO 22000 under Kiwa and MyCO2.
• Second-party: more than 500 food safety and brand standard audits for KFC, Pizza Hut, Subway, Domino's, Marks & Spencer and Carl's Jr. through NSF, plus supplier audits against RBI and Barry Callebaut requirements.
• Hospitality: Food Safety Auditor for Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.
She has also worked from inside a certified site. As Interim QA Manager at Eng Hing Plastic Industries, a food packaging manufacturer, she maintained the FSSC 22000 and ISO 9001 systems and handled customer audits from Cargill, Guan Chong Cocoa and Kerry Ingredients. That experience keeps her advice practical and ready for audit day.
She has trained and consulted for more than 100 organisations in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar and the Maldives. Clients include F&N, Unilever, Kerry, Yakult, DFI Group, Secret Recipe and Shangri-La. She works across food manufacturing, food and industrial packaging, animal feed, fats and oils, food service, chemicals, construction and engineering. Her topics range from HACCP and management system requirements to food fraud, food defence and internal auditor. She trains in English, Malay and Mandarin, so she can reach every level of the workforce, from management to the production floor.
