Meet Emma
About you
I currently work within the quality team at Direct Food Ingredients Ltd who are a BRCGS Agent and Broker for ambient food ingredients. My role involves supplier and product approvals, ensuring products are safe and meet the legal requirements in the country they are to be sold in.
In my spare time, I enjoy walking and wild swimming, I have recently taken an interest in cold water therapy. I also enjoying taking my children on bike rides.
Why did you join the BRCGS Professional Programme?
Prior to joining the BRCGS Professional Programme, I was keen to expand my knowledge and understanding of food safety and ensuring compliance for our business. I feel I am now able to share my knowledge with other members of the team.
What value do you personally feel the BRCGS Professional certification brings to you?
The biggest value BRCGS Professional Programme has brought to me is, prior to joining the quality team, I had no knowledge of BRCGS standards and since gaining the certification it has given me the skills and knowledge to manage our quality management systems to ensure we are complying with the BRCGS Agents and Brokers Standard.
How has the training helped improve operations at your site/company?
It has given me confidence in my own ability to enhance our quality management procedures, which are under continuous monitoring and improvement especially when the supply chain is facing many vulnerabilities currently. We are now also putting other members of the team through the programme.
What did you most enjoy about the training?
The trainer was very knowledgeable and the delivery methods of working in groups helped to assist with my learning. Also I was able to apply my new knowledge when completing the assessments.
What are you most looking forward to within the professional community?
Being part of the BRCGS Professional community means being able to meet likeminded professionals that share the same achievements and ambitions.
How do you plan to keep your skills up to date?
I have already started to complete my PPP system and will continue to enrol on more training and also attending webinars and E-learning to grow my knowledge and skills within the industry.
What are your career ambitions/aims?
I aim to continue to enhance my knowledge and understanding of food safety, authenticity, quality and legality for food businesses to develop and embed my skills further to ensure I am always working to a high standard within the industry. I would also like to further my knowledge in auditing after recently also completing the BRCGS Lead Auditor course.
