About you
My current role at US Cold Storage is as Food Safety, Training, Compliance, OSS Supervisor for two of the three Laredo facilities.
Why did you join the BRCGS Professional Programme?
I joined the BRCGS Professional Programme to develop and contribute to the food industry as well as contribute to my organization.
What value do you personally feel the BRCGS Professional certification brings to you?
As an individual, I feel the BRCGS Professional Programme certification shows my commitment to continual improvement and growth, as well as a professional dedication to provide safe and high quality food to our customers and general public.
How has/will the recognition programme impacted your work?
The programme provides me with additional skills, training, and motivation to push my organization harder. It provides me with additional confidence in regards to building a Food Safety Management System of the highest standards as well as reinforcement of our Product Safety Quality Culture.
How did you get to your current role?
I had previously worked for other companies in other areas of warehousing (packaging, labeling, machine operating) as well as other areas of safety (traffic and transportation, warehousing, compliance, IT infrastructure), and when I was hired at a small, local warehouse involved in public refrigerated warehousing, I became interested in applying my previous skills and knowledge to the food industry. When the current position opened up at US Cold, I did not hesitate to apply. Thanks to my current and former manager for the opportunity, I was hired into my current role and have been enjoying every moment since.
What is your educational background?
I am currently still working towards my bachelor’s degree; I do have an Associate’s in Applied Sciences and several food industry certifications such as FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food, HACCP, and ISO 22000 Lead Auditor.
What are your career ambitions/aims?
First of all, I would like to continue growing and developing within US Cold Storage. It is, at it’s core, a very exciting and people-oriented organization; one where I see myself retiring from. I would like to assist the growth of this company and its food safety program on the management side. I hope to be part of the upper management team within 15 years, and aspire to make it to corporate level operations and assist with the modernization of production to ensure it’s food safety program isn’t left behind.
