Meet Narisha

About you

I studied my Diploma in Marketing Management and then spent 18 years in Finance as a Credit Controller which required a lot of attention to detail. My current role is SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment and Quality) Administrator, which involves document control as well as generating COAs and processing credit returns for the business. I am a very friendly bubbly person. I love spending time with family and helping people. In my spare time I love reading, spending time at the beach, trying out new ventures and chilling with friends.

Why did you join the BRCGS Professional Programme?

After spending 18 years in finance, my position was made redundant and I saw this as an opportunity to change my career direction and take on a new role in our SHEQ department. As my role involved document control, I got to learn about our production processes and got exposure to the BRCGS procedures when we moved to the new 5.1 version. Given that I have an inquiring mind, and that I had been exposed to many financial audits, I approached my manager about the possibility of going on formal training so that I have a more in depth understanding of the BRCGS standard and ultimately so I could be part of the Internal Audit Team.

What value do you personally feel the BRCGS Professional certification brings to you?

I have gained a better understanding of the standard and have developed my knowledge base, which has given me confidence to participate in future Internal and External Audits.

How has the training helped improve operations at your site/company?

Along with the team, I get to share my understanding to implement and improve our existing system. My training has helped me to better understand what is required and how I can assist in improving the company’s current system.

What did you most enjoy about the training?

I loved interacting with the other delegates from various industries as we learned a lot from one another’s experiences as well as the questions they asked. I got good insight into how the BRCGS standard is interlinked. The training was fun and easy to follow considering the whole concept is new to me.

What are you most looking forward to within the Professional community?

I would like to stay connected with other professionals and share ideas, especially since there is so much to absorb and interpret from the standard. This will also help me to keep in touch with current issues and changes that will happen from time to time.

How do you plan to keep your skills up to date?

I will ensure I work closely with our Risk Manager so that I can apply and practice what I have learned and I want to further my studies with more advanced courses through the BRCGS PPP programme.

What are your career ambitions/aims?

To be the best at my job. Also, to grow and become part of the Internal Audit Team as this will help me to gain the skills and experience of the practical implementation of the BRCGS standard.

I want to thank my company, Constantia Afripack, and my manager, Tania Behrens, for the opportunity to attend this training.
