Build your career as a BRCGS auditor
BRCGS auditors play a vital role in maintaining the integrity of our certification programmes and driving improvement across global supply chains. Working through an approved certification body, you will assess organisations against internationally recognised standards, apply your industry expertise and help businesses build trust through consistent, high-quality audits.
How to become a BRCGS auditor
All auditors must work for a certification body, which may be on an employed or contracted basis. An independent auditor cannot issue a BRCGS audit certificate.
The certification body is responsible for ensuring that the auditor fulfils the specified competency requirements, is registered with BRCGS, and that skills and knowledge of all registered auditors are maintained.
Auditors must demonstrate that their qualifications and manufacturing experience meet the requirements of the relevant standard. At a minimum, they need:
A degree or equivalent qualification in a field relevant to the standard
Completion of a recognised QMS Lead Auditor course or an equivalent qualification
At least two days of HACCP training based on Codex Alimentarius principles, or equivalent risk assessment training for non-food products
At least five years of relevant post-qualification industry experience, typically in manufacturing
Completion of BRCGS training for the relevant standard
The required audit experience, including a specified number of audits against BRCGS standards
Please note that the auditor requirements for the Start standard are different. For more information please contact your certification body.
