Greater confidence in every plant-based claim
With global retail sales of plant-based meat and seafood having tripled since 2015, BRCGS helps businesses make credible claims to win consumer trust through globally recognised, independently assessed certification. Our plant-based standard gives manufacturers a comprehensive management-system framework for producing plant-based foods, with robust operational criteria designed to prevent material of animal origin from entering certified products. It can be added simply to any BRCGS or GFSI-benchmarked food standard audit helping sites strengthen plant-based assurance without duplicating established food-safety systems.

Help & Guidance
Position statements
Position statements
During the lifetime of a published standard, the BRCGS Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) may be asked to review the wording of a clause or provide an interpretation of a requirement or a detail of the protocol. The decision made by the TAC is known as a position statement.
Position statements are binding and are considered to be an extension of the standard. Certified sites need to be aware of any statements relating to a standard and, where necessary, ensure that information is transferred into action.
Position statements are published on our website and on Participate. You can find out when a new statement has been published by signing up to the BRCGS newsletter.
Self-assessment checklist
Self-assessment checklist
BRCGS publishes self-assessment checklists for each standard providing a practical way to assess your operation against the standard requirements. This helps you build confidence ahead of your certification audit.
Covering every requirement of the standard, it helps you undertake a gap analysis of your level of compliance with the option to add comments and highlight improvement opportunities as you go.
Schedule A document
Schedule A document
The Schedule A document is a product registration document. The site completes the form and submits it to BRCGS for approval before their BRCGS audit. It helps define which products are recognised under the programme and supports trademark control. A separate Schedule A is generally required for each brand owner, and BRCGS must be informed when the product list changes.
Trademark approval
Trademark approval
BRCGS provides various guidance documents on the use of the gluten-free on-pack consumer trademarks for certified sites:
Free-From trademark guideline
Plant-based trademark approval form
The trademark approval form should be submitted with your completed Schedule A document and artwork files of intended trademark application.
Credibility with a trusted trademark
The globally recognised BRCGS Informed trademark gives consumers a quick, credible way to identify plant-based products. It helps manufacturers and brands build trust through transparency around product claims.
Certified manufacturers can sign a license to use the Trademark on product packaging.
Brands and specifiers of certification can use the trademark if they wish to mandate BRCGS plant-based certification in their supply chain. Use is free, subject to signing a licence agreement with BRCGS.
Note for certified sites: Contact brcgs.labels@lgcgroup.com to request the trademark artwork files for use on product packaging.
