Consumer products make up approximately 30% of the international grocery basket, so the importance of a globally recognised certification standard for these products is immeasurable. Since the launch of BRCGS Global Standard Consumer Products in 2003, consumer awareness has significantly increased, and supply chains have become more complex. As a result, the Standard has grown and is now used by over 1000 manufacturers in more than 45 countries.
A revision of BRCGS Global Standard Consumer Products is underway. The revision and evolution of our Standards ensure they incorporate latest industry trends and operations, practical experiences, and best practices from industry. It considers changing expectations, regulatory requirements, and customer needs to build on the value that our customers and stakeholders gain from the use of our Standards.
Global Standard Consumer Products Issue 5 has been developed with input from a working group of international stakeholders including consumer product manufacturers, retailers, trade associations, accreditation bodies, certification bodies, and independent technical experts.
The public consultation on the draft Issue 5 is now open. This is a crucial element of the revision process, and we invite you to take part by providing your feedback and comments.
We encourage comments from national and international stakeholders representing consumer product manufacturers, industry trade associations, regulators, retailers, brand owners, certification bodies and independent technical experts.
Stakeholders are invited to consider the draft and provide feedback on both the proposed requirements and the audit protocol by email to brcgs.enquiries@lgcgroup.com using the consultation feedback form provided.
Closing date for feedback submissions: 22 January 2026
