CJ CheilJedang has become the first company in South Korea to adopt the BRCGS Food Safety Culture Excellence (FSCE) module, leading the way in organizational transformation centered around food safety. This pioneering move aimed to fundamentally enhance the company's internal culture by shifting employees’ awareness, behaviors, and the overall workplace atmosphere to prioritize food safety at all levels.
To mark the occasion an event to share food safety culture outcomes was held on 27 April at the CJ CheilJedang Center in Jung-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by key company leaders, including Kang Min-su, Head of Manufacturing, Food, and Park Cheon-ho, Head of Global Food Safety Innovation, as well as Ray Jin, BRCGS Head for North Asia, and Lee Il-hyung, Korea General Manager of LRQA Korea Limited.
The company expressed pride in having its achievements in food safety culture officially recognized by BRCGS, highlighting the credibility and influence this brings to Korean corporations in international markets.
Recognizing the limitations of traditional education and inspection-focused management, CJ CheilJedang introduced the FSCE module in August 2025 to drive real change on the ground. This initiative involved comprehensive analysis of the organization’s strengths and weaknesses, benchmarking against global industry standards, and developing a systematic strategy for food safety improvements.
The implementation of FSCE was customized for the domestic workplace. Survey questions were adapted to reflect Korea’s unique organizational culture and working environment, ensuring that frontline employees clearly understood and could accurately respond to the intent behind the questions.
Approximately 4,700 participated in a companywide survey, which helped identify unique characteristics and improvement tasks. Following this, a workshop was held at the Nonsan plant to discuss specific implementation plans, marking the start of large-scale improvement activities.
CJ CheilJedang is further accelerating change by appointing "food safety culture ambassadors" throughout the organization. The company plans to expand these efforts companywide so that all employees integrate food safety values naturally into their daily routines.
A company official commented, “This is the result of our proactive efforts to establish a food safety culture. We will continue to strengthen our global top-tier food safety leadership.”
