New seafood country of origin labelling requirements come into effect in Australia from 1 July 2026

From 1 July 2026, new country of origin labelling requirements will apply to seafood served for immediate consumption in hospitality settings across Australia.

The changes, introduced under Australian Consumer Law, apply to restaurants, cafés, pubs, takeaways and other hospitality businesses. Businesses will be required to clearly indicate whether seafood is Australian, imported or of mixed origin before customers place their order.

There are three approved ways to communicate the origin of seafood:

▪️ Single-letter AIM labels
▪️ Detailed AIM labels
▪️ A single statement covering all seafood served by the business

These new requirements are designed to provide consumers with clear and consistent information, helping them make informed purchasing decisions.
