This guideline covers all protective clothing laundered for food and packaging related industries by external laundries, in-house laundries and washing by employees.
A number of sectors, including food and packaging, require personnel to wear protective clothing to ensure product is manufactured in a safe environment. The protective clothing protects not only the worker but also the products and equipment from foreign-bodies, chemicals, microbiological contamination and allergens.
This guideline applies to protective clothing used in manufacturing areas warehouses, facility areas, laboratories, etc. It covers all protective clothing laundered for food and packaging related industries by external laundries, in-house laundries and washing by employees. The guideline has been produced to help companies, manufacturers and packing operations understand good practice with respect to the laundering of protective clothing.

While the focus is on cleanliness and hygiene when designing and contracting laundry
services in a food environment, the principals can be applied to other sectors; therefore the guideline will be of interest to anyone who requires clean, hygienic protective clothing.
