Audits on or after 1 September 2026 shall be conducted against this version.
The meat-processing industry comes under a higher level of public scrutiny due to fraudulent claims relating to meat products. As a result, customers of meat-processing facilities requested demonstrable systems of traceability back to the slaughterhouse and the verification of authenticity.
This module was developed in response to requests from the meat supply chain and was initiated by the British Meat Processors Association (BMPA). Certification to the along with the BRCGS Global Standard Food Safety (Issue 9) is designed to:
- demonstrate good management of the meat supply chain
- provide confidence to customers
- reduce the need for multiple audits of the supply chain
- reduce costs and audit time for meat processors
- ensure a consistent quality to meat supply chain auditing.
The 2026 version is the result of a review of the module by the BRCGS technical working group. It provides clarity on a few requirements and key points of interpretation but does not represent a total rewrite of the iteration published in 2023.
Certification issued against the previous version of the Module shall remain valid until its expiry date but shall not be extended beyond that point. Any re-certification audits with audit start date falling on or after 1 September 2026 shall be conducted against the updated version. This applies to both combined and standalone audits.
