We have worked very closely with the Italian Packaging Institute to increase the number of qualified packaging auditors in Italy. The Institute’s training course is now recognised by BRCGS for auditors to carry out BRCGS Packaging audits. This important step will help the country to build its competence and skills base to improve the safety of food material and packaging materials, and provide a high level of health protection for consumers. The training provides an understanding of the packaging supply chain and associated risks and key processes for all manufacturing categories, insight into the materials and objects that come into contact with food and hygiene sensitive consumer products, and an understanding of national and EU/UK regulatory requirements. As BRCGS is accepted and recognised by the leading brands, demand for the Packaging Materials Standard is growing significantly in Italy. The availability of qualified and registered auditors will help meet the increasing demand.
