We are delighted to announce the new Issue 2 of the START! Programme was launched today, 01 March 2023.

The revision and evolution of our standards is at the heart of our work. By reviewing our standards, we can ensure that they incorporate latest industry trends and operations, practical experiences and best practices from industry. The revision process enables us to take into account the changing expectations, regulatory and encourages the development of food safety systems in small or new sites where food safety management systems are immature. Developed in line with the full Global Standard Food Safety, it is recognised and supported by many leading brands and retailers. The programme provides a clear path towards improved food safety standards as food businesses grow.

The focus of the Issue 2 revision has been on:

  • Reviewing clauses at the basic and intermediate levels to align with the current requirements of the Global Standard Food Safety
  • Encouraging understanding and development of a product safety culture
  • Ensuring global applicability and compatibility with the Codex General Principles of Food Hygiene
  • Expanding the audit options
  • Updating the requirements associated with core product safety activities.

Certificated sites can access their free copy of Issue 2 through BRCGS Participate. Otherwise, it can be purchased via the BRCGS Store.
