After graduating from the study of biochemistry in England, Nick focused on quality management in manufacturing. He worked in the food industry for six years; in consumer products for ten years; and food packaging for five years.

He has worked as an auditor since 1997; working with the standards ISO 9001; QS-9000; ISO 14001; ISO 18001; Responsible Care; the BRCGS Standards for Food Safety; Packaging and Packaging Materials; Storage and Distribution; and Consumer Products; and has experience in TS16949, SMETA, Forestry Stewardship Council and TASC.

He qualified as a trainer in 1987 and currently trains all of the BRCGS Standards.

During his career, he has developed, implemented and managed a variety of standalone and fully integrated management systems, including EN 45011/guide 65 standard for the BRC Global Standards certification programme globally within Intertek. He was also one of the members of the technical committees helping to develop the BRCGS Standards certification and training program.

Since March 2012 he has been running his own business (Nick Lengden Limited), which offers training, consultancy, and a range of audits, working with a number of manufacturing companies, certification bodies, UKAS and BRCGS.

Currently, in addition to his consultancy work, he is also auditing against a number of retailers' own standards in the food and non-food industries, as well as audits against all of the BRCGS Standards.
